Useful Information on Liposuction

Liposuction is amongst the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures by plastic surgeons. Liposuction is not a treatment that will improve your health or well-being; it is a purely cosmetic procedure. It procedure involves removing areas of excess fat if exercise and diet has had no effect. Liposuction is a treatment that will change the way your body shape looks and is not to be thought of as a method of losing weight.

Anyone wanting to have liposuction has to be within 30% of their ideal weight, if you suffer from obesity a surgeon will not perform the treatment and is liable to ask you to lose weight before returning again.

To be qualified for liposuction, patients have to be able to show up a clean bill of health, both physically and mentally. They should also be fairly fit and have already tried exercise and diet before approaching a cosmetic surgeon for liposuction. If the skin on the area to be treated is too wrinkled or loose it might be deemed not acceptable for the treatment.

Liposuction is not considered to be a very complicated technique. First, small incisions are made in the skin. Then a small tube, known as a cannula and attached to a vacuum machine, is inserted into the fatty tissue to be removed. You are usually given the option of a general or local anaesthetic.

Often it is not considered necessary to stay overnight at a hospital after the procedure has been done. A hospital stay may be necessary if there is a large amount of fat to be removed however.

Liposuction can be used in a number of different areas over the body. Men usually undergo the treatment as they age and build up excess weight around their waists (the love handles) and stomachs, or fatty tissue forming a double chin. Some men also suffer from man breasts then go for a surgery. For Women, issues with excess fat will often show under their chin, hips, on their upper arms, their thighs and waistline. Liposuction can make your lumps and bumps evaporate and improve body contours, giving you an improved shape both in and out of your clothes.

Liposuction on the face is often performed at the same time as a face or eye lift is being done. Fat can be removed from around the eyes, cheeks and chin. The procedure can particularly help women who have undergone a breast reduction or men who need Gynecomastia reduction. The buttock region is another liposuction favourite for removing obstinate fat deposits. A common area, particularly for women, is liposuction on the inner thighs and knees. When the fat is removed it can make your legs look slimmer and shapelier.

Liposuction is a commonly carried out and safe procedure; however complications can accompany any surgery. Dimpling effects or a lumpiness in the skin are just some of the problems patients have reported, whilst others have had experience a slight numbness in the treated area. Others have experienced numbness, scarring, discoloration, or sagging skin in the treated area. Always ensure you know all the risks when considering surgery and any side effects. Your surgeon should be able to explain any risks that could occur. Even though liposuction will get rid of fatty tissue for you, you must have a realistic expectation of your body type and not go too far trying to perfect it. A good doctor will always make sure you are fully informed of any possible risks.
