The Basics of Writing Online Memoirs

Writing online memoirs is a more convenient way of recording interesting and valuable experiences of your life. Even the so called ‘ordinary’ life may have something interesting that can be passed on to others. More and more people are taking to online memoirs and finding it an extremely rewarding and creative experience.

Once you’ve decided to write your memoir, it could be quite a task to know where to begin. There are many tools that can help you with your online memoir. They give you tips and suggestions on how to start and what to include in your life story. These tools also provide services like editing, proofreading and checking the format of the document, which come in very handy for writers, especially amateurs.

Plan the layout of your memoir. Consider things like your audience, style of writing, and subject. Make a note of the incidents that you are going to mention and jog your memory by talking to friends and family, reading your personal diaries and looking at your old photos.

While writing online memoirs, one may be tempted to write too much detail or too many incidents. It’s best to make a note of the most important incidents and work on elaborating and embellishing them, instead. Your memoir has to grab the reader’s attention from the word “Go”.

The advantage with an online memoir is that you don’t have to be too fussed with the chronological order of events. You can note down the incidents as they come to mind and organize them later at ease with the tools that the website provides for your convenience.

Once you get down to writing about your life, it could be a painful experience too. You may come across some memories that you would rather not revisit. However, with a little bit of honesty and retrospection, you will be able to tackle those dark memories and write a memoir that will be cherished by your family and friends.
