A Viable Third Politcal Party Is Needed

Again I digress from being your dui lawyer of Palm Beach into that of political pundit. So Obama campaigned as a progressive! I have heard tape where he endorsed single payer health care! I thought he believed in the rule of law and not the rule of the dollar! Frankly, he is beginning to appear to me as if he is Bush light!

Recently, the Democratic Senator from Montana, Max Bacchus, held hearings on health care reform. At the table sat representatives from the Blue Cross, Blue Shiled, HMOs, pharmaceutical companies but yet absent were any advocates of single payer! This seems strange given that the organization, Physicians for a National Health Program (PHNP) had contacted the Bacchus' weeks ahead of time and tried to gain a seat at the table. At the last minute they were refused a seat. As the hearings started a number of single payer advocates stood up and asked why they were being excluded. Bacchus had them arrested. Among the arrested were nurses and doctors and while they were being led away the insurance representatives at the table were laughing at them. To me this is arrogance to the extreme! Bacchus later said that America does not want single payer! Would it surprise anyone to learn that Senator Max Bacchus has taken more money from the insurance companies than any other politician.  I think it is apparent that Senator Max Bacchus is indeed corrupt and in the pockets of the insurance companies. But where was Obama during this? He was silent . All he had to do was make a telephone call and that would have ended it. Now, from what I read, all of us will have to purchase mandatory insurance from these companies! Huh? Mandatory! Why is it that ALL other western democracies have health care paid for by the government, yet the U.S. cannot manage it? Maybe it is because 51% of all collected tax dollars goes to the military and military industrial complex!

But there is more, Obama has retreated from prosecution of corrupt Bush officials who broke the law. Obama has refused to release additional photographs that potrayed torture after he first said he would release them. He has backed off on the prosecutions for torture but yet he says the final decision will come from the Justice Department. Obama has increased troop levels in Afghanistan and has used unmanned drones to attack targets in Pakistan, yet a third country. These attacks have in fact killed innocent men, women and children. Obama recently promoted General McChrystal to lead the effort in Afghanistan. McCrystal was formerly in charge of black operations. Remember Pat Tillman, the football player killed in Afghanistan. Well, McCrystal was involved in the investigation. The Tillman family believes he has covered the events surrounding Pat's death up. Why, you say? According to a recent Vanity Fair article, Pat was questioning the war. Pat had started reading Noam Chomsky and was corresponding with Chomsky. Apparently Pat was shot three times in the forehead and according to one report the shots came might have come from 10 - 15 feet away. Was it an execution?

But wait there is more! The banks and the other crooks on Wall street have been bailed out by the American taxpayer. The tax payer has been rewarded by the banks raising their interest rates. The politicians bent over backwards for the banks , yet, when it came time to help the automobile industry they were slow. Why? Because the automobile industry is made up of the great middle class that the politicians really despise! To hear the Republicans and some Democrat politicians talk one would think that it was all the fault of the unions. After all GM, Ford, Chrysler were locked into contracts that obligated them to pay for health care. This was unacceptable said the same politicians. Did you know that Japan subsidizes healthcare so that Toyota and Hyundai do not have to pay it? Did you know that Germany not only subsidizes health care but a college education is free?

My point is this; there is not a dime's woth of difference between the two parties because both parties are controlled by lobbyists, corporations and other monied interests!  So what can be done? Change, one election at a time! It is time to take a serious look at a third party, perhaps at the Green party (no I am not a member, I am an independent)! Why the Greens? Because they have actually won elections in Europe. They have seats in various legislative bodies.

To change you must take it seriously! You have the obligation to speak to other individuals about this issue. Hopefully, in turn they will speak to others. But frankly what we have now no longer works! It is up to us to make a change!
