My name is Dan Cheek. I run the website StopLouBarletta.com, which is dedicated to keeping Lou Barletta out of the US Congress.
Since Lou Barletta, current mayor of Hazleton, PA, has announced his candidacy for the United States Congress, I have been opposed to him becoming a US Congressman. As Barletta is a Republican and running against the long-serving Paul Kanjorski for Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District, some people have questioned why I, who am also a Republican, would be opposed to him. My answer is this; It is a matter of addition by subtraction.
What I mean by that is that I feel that the Republican Party would be made stronger if Barletta were not in the Congress. While the election of Barletta would give the Republican Party one more seat in the House of Representatives, and the Democrats one less, I don’t think the party would be in a better or stronger position. If anything, I believe that Barletta would actually weaken the Republicans in Congress.
Lou Barletta is not a very strong candidate. While he has achieved a limited amount of national spotlight for his extremely controversial immigration policies, he has yet to take a stand on any other issue. He has failed to explain to voters exactly where he stands on the War in Iraq, the Housing Crisis, the slumping economy, and rising gas prices. Clearly, this is not the type of politician that the Republican Party, which has already been severely weakened in Congress due to losing control of both Houses, should be fielding to the public.
Additionally, Barletta has, so far, shown a complete inability to raise any funds for his campaign. According to the latest data released by the Federal Election Commission (http://www.FTC.gov), Barletta has already built up twice as much debt as he has cash on hand. This inability to raise funds demonstrates that 1.) Barletta is not at all popular with the constituency and 2.) He is in no position to take on the financially strenuous task of taking on a long seated incumbent.
The Republican Party needs to be focusing, at this point, on quality and not quantity. It is highly unlikely that the Republicans will be able to retake their Congressional majority in this upcoming election. The numbers, both in terms of polling data and campaign funds, simply aren’t there. Instead, the party needs to be focusing on fielding solid, highly electable candidates who can gain entry into the Congress, and then once there, help move the party forward. Lou Barletta is not that type of candidate.
This is why, as a Republican, I am opposed to Lou Barletta’s run for Congress. I believe, as I describe in great detail on my website, that Barletta is a horrible candidate and will, if elected, only make things worse for the Republicans. Lou Barletta, despite the fact that he is a Republican candidate, should be rejected by Republican voters. It’s addition by subtraction.

People, the world over are preparing to rejoice or at-least the media depicts it in such a way that one is led to believe that there is joy and happiness around the world. Who are we, we are the people of Pakistan.
