A drug war in Mexico is not new news to me. I’ve been hearing about it since I was a kid. Since recent violence is worse than it’s ever been I hear more and more ignorant comments on the situation.
I hear comments like “Mexico is corrupt” and “deport illegal’s back to Mexico.” I agree that Mexico’s government has corruption. You want to know what? America’s government has corruption too just like every other government I can think of.
Illegal aliens in America has nothing to do with the drug wars in Mexico or the war spilling in over to our side of the border. The problem is deep rooted and it starts at home. It’s the economics behind the drug industry. This is very simple how it works. American’s are addicted to drugs. Whether it’s pot, crack, heroine, or pills. We are addicted!
We “need” these drugs and of course because Mexico has them they will provide the drugs. It’s not like some greedy Mexican jumps the border and sets up a drug-lemonade stand and pushes drugs onto your children.
We provide the money and the guns and there you have it, it’s called business. Mexican officials estimate that the cartels make $10 billion a year by trafficking drugs to the United States.
Unfortunately this business is a multibillion dollar industry and the CEO’s (the drug lords) will stop at nothing to keep it going. Including killing cops, DEA, and anyone that attempts to get in their way. Sounds like the CEO’s of some cigarette companies don’t it?
Nearly 1,000 police officers have been killed, along with soldiers, civilians, and politicians.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon has practically declared martial law in the problem areas of Mexico. Fifty percent of Mexican troops were ordered by Calderon to take on the drug lords head on. Calderon has taken drastic measures to weed out corrupt Mexican police and promises to continue sifting out the bad apples.
He predicts that by 2012 the military force will return to barracks and things should finally return to normal. The war will never end unless you help. I’ll explain.
The birth of this war started here at home. So long as someone is willing to pay for pot, there will be someone willing to ship it here. It is supply and demand in its ugliest form because human blood is spilled over it.
If you want these problems to go away, stop buying drugs. Stop supporting anyone that has a drug habit. Americans can help win this war by not buying drugs.
