Patriotism of the Americas by Wide Lens

As the Europeans conducted their disgraceful African slave trade with the Americas, they did not keep those slaves for themselves. Americans did. As a result, there ware far fewer Negroes in Europe than in America. When The British outlawed slavery, Lincoln abolished slavery in the US, the Civil war broke out.

When we look back on the founders of this country, most of them were Caucasians and they hardly knew much about other races, but when they seized this land, as their own, white patriotism surfaced. Anyone else, not of their kind was looked down on as someone coming to take their piece of the great American pie.

Most of the Catholic Irish already carried with them a deep prejudice against Protestants, those belonging to their ‘oppressor’ the Church of England. They fought the English and won, but this time their triumph was on the newfound land of the free and the home of the brave.

In the South, slavery continued, helping creating a brand new cast of aristocracy, which, as a natural outcome of their masterful discharge, sucked on the breast of supremacy. With these deeply ingrained attitudes within the white soul, by Lincoln’s time it was unimaginable to let go of the ‘worshipped’ power and position. Europeans sold us slaves, but just sold them; Americans bought them and kept them as slaves and now they must part with them? Impossible.

Thousands upon thousands gave up their lives for human folly. You might say, “for an ideal.” However, if the grounds for the birth of such an ideal were not there, in the first place, we would not have to act mad later on. But through all these ‘ideals’, white patriotism was born.

Italians, Jews, and Slavs kept on greeting the gracious lady at Staten Island, New York, and she welcomed them, but it was not the same with those that watched her. They felt threatened; their piece of pie was about to be sliced again, and again. They traveled westward looking for the land of the red and the savage. Wild West was born. White American patriotism thrived as new additions were being installed into its bag of definitions. What is patriotism; the army, ideal, ambition, loyalty, bravery, but in the name of what, or whose America?

All minorities had to face this sort of—an imported from Catholic Ireland—patriotism and deal with it on their own terms. Clans and Mafias were formed in the name of looking after their own kind and control. Italians and Jews did their shtick in competition with the Irish and the Anglos. As criminal they might have been, that was and still is the history of this country. Every culture defines patriotism and loyalty on their own.

The time has finally arrived when all Americans were placed under the flag and sort of united. We have the Constitution and the Pledge of Allegiance, “one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” Nice.

Now, in the name of these ‘values’ the Democrat is too liberal, and the Republican these values staunch supporter and as if the only voice for them. Being clad in the flag and hidden behind the 200-years-old patriotism, the Republicans cast the damning lot on the leftist liberal Democrats. After all, the Republican narrow views were the cause for the birth of liberalism in the first place. When you are oppressed, you seek liberty. Democrats are accused of being too lax in their views. Naturally, if one is narrow another seeks to widen your views. The Democrat tries to cut a new trail while the Republican wants to tread the same old trail over and over again. Keep on beating on a dead horse…

After the white American patriotism has been so well defined and the old horse tries to pull the wagon with McCain and Palin driving it, the TV adds play the National Anthem. All media now bombard us with subtle pieces of the American patriotic tunes. ‘Yes, now is the time to push the buttons in the American soul, the emotional strongholds of power and pride we have cultivated for so long.’

After all the monopoly on patriotism is the Irish Republican and the party it stands for with liberty and justice for their own kind. How can we (Republicans) allow a black man to be the next president of the United States of America? The next one, God forbid, might be another member of the underprivileged… a woman? Who, until recently - the 20th Century - were not even considered full citizens with voting rights like any other human American?

What is this coming down to? Next, we will have a Native American Indian, or Chinese… God forbid, a Jew! “We are going to lose the nation to…“ (The list of offensive names comes here).

The Limbaughs rush to the rescue, and O’Reillies rally the loose bulls still left unattended on the pastures. Sanitizing the yet un-Hannitized… screwing the yet unscrewed.

In the name of the bigoted Pharisaic patriotism, they also cried “crucify” and nothing has changed since. The wide panoramic lens the Democrats claim to possess is just too liberal.
