Those who receive supplemental security income, social security, veterans’ disability and veterans’ pensions were the recipients of a direct cash payment from the government that couldn’t have come at a better time in the nation’s struggle with a recession.
It is another facet of Obama’s stimulus package designed to help people deal with financial challenges, particularly those who have served our country in the military service and are veterans and those who are retired but have worked a full lifetime and are now eligible for social security benefits as mentioned.
Many people who are retired find that living on a fixed income is more of a challenge than working ever was because the amount of money per month doesn’t change. The stimulus package created by the Obama administration took this into consideration along with the trouble that many retired people have been encountering with the recession.
Fortunately, the Senate approved assistance for many people that was right on time and in just the right form: cash. The bill approved by the Senate allowed eligible individuals and families to receive a one-time cash payment directly. Checks were mailed out by the government almost immediately and in a matter of just a few short months, millions of people had received a cash payment which would help them to offset expenses and costs for living that have continued to rise.
Some married couples received up to $630. Many individuals were able to receive $250. Overall, the outcome goes to show that Obama’s stimulus package recognizes the needs of the people and it is working to help.
