The Fate of Bush's Legacy. . . History Can be Brutal

Some believe President George Bush is exercising wishful thinking.

The president himself believes history will judge him as an effective leader who came to the White House to solve problems.

Regardless of how you perceive him today, he will leave a legacy whether it is good or bad. Currently Bush's public approval rating is pushing historical lows hovering below 30%.

Now, we all know how polls work and they are not necessarily a gauge of how the public will feel in 10 years.

But, what type of decisions did the President make in which his legacy will be dependent on?

Will it be his handling of September 11th attacks (which most Americans approved of), or the Iraq war - and should things continue to improve this could turn positive for him.

How about the handling of Hurricane Katrina? Will the problems with the current economic crisis be directly pointed to the Bush Administration?

On the flip side of things, will the public remember the "No Child Left Behind Act," or the nearly 50 billion dollars that African nations have received to fight AIDS.

To effectively gauge the last eight years, you must look at the big picture. Bush's first administration was solely based on the characteristics of "Bring Em on" or Dead or Alive."

But the second term displayed a more diplomatic approach; to a certain extent. For instance, North Korea was taken off the "Axis of Evil" list. The State department sent more diplomats to work with the ensuing crisis in Iran.

With the current economic conditions, this administration is starting to look more like FDR's 5th term.

While the Big 3 are still in limbo, I'm sure we haven't seen the end of the bailout era.

Did Bush succeed as a wartime president? Well, he is right, history will be the judge.

However, one thing is clear: While history is judging one president, we'll have another president making history at least for the next four years.

Replacing Kyoto with an Universally Acceptable Treaty

By: Klaus H Hemsath | 30/12/2009
Extending the Kyoto Treaty failed in Copenhagen. It is not salvageable. It must be replaced by an agreement acceptable to industrialized nations, quickly developing states, and all underdeveloped countries. An acceptable concept must be based on plentiful and affordable energy for all, on ending all emissions within 50 years, on using renewable and sustainable energies only, and on retrieving past emissions by their original emitters.
