The New Minority

The election of 2008 demonstrated that a new minority exists in America.  Producing Americans!

Americans seeking entitlements are the majority now; they consist of government workers, professional people who are required by government mandated programs, special interest lobbying groups, universities and school systems dependant on government spending, people at the lower rungs on the economic ladder that have their hand out, illegal immigrants and all the private companies whose fortunes are dependant on government spending.

Americans who work to produce wealth that supports the aforementioned segments of our society, not only can’t produce enough wealth to sustain the United States; they have lost the power at the ballot box and are a significant minority.

People tend to vote with their pocketbook; in other words people will vote for whomever they believe will provide them the best financial advantage.  Preservation of liberty in the USA carries a lower priority, even in these times when America’s future is threatened from both outside and inside forces.

When the majority selfishly chooses personal interests over the national interest, I think it can be compared to Aesop’s fable about the people who killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

An economy depends on a balance between producers, that create wealth, and service providers that use up some of that wealth; certainly not more than is produced, unless you want to live with deficits forever.

The current administration in DC seems to believe they can engineer creation of wealth by selective federal programs utilizing tax incentives or disincentives and at the same time advance a political agenda.  Maybe we should evaluate historical federal programs in terms of wealth creation and success; programs like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and many others that have contributed to the bankruptcy of America.

The Obama administration has a progressive agenda that calls for building a new foundation for America, a foundation built on shifting sands.  I guess that’s possible when concern for deficits have a low priority because they will be the burden for someone else in the future.

The president is right when he says he inherited the failing economy because it has been on a fast downhill slide for thirty years.  He is wrong to artificially and temporarily fix the economy on the backs of future Americans.

America needs to take its medicine, It’s sick because of too many years of being hooked on maxed out credit and entitlements; it will take it’s medicine sooner or later but the longer it takes the harder it will be to swallow.

Politicians have a duty to the citizens to repair our economy the right way, by getting the hell out of the way and allowing the free market to fix it.  Politicians also know, because they created it, that they have the majority in their pocket and they don’t need to do the right thing.

I was just a kid when Hitler first came into power, and later as a teenager I watched his demise on news reels, there was no TV then.  Later I wondered how a maniac like that could convince enough people to allow him to take over a whole nation.  Now I see that all it takes is a positive message when people are going through stressful times; the irony of that is it’s always government policies that create troubled times.

It’s obvious to me that president Obama intends to complete the mission of the progressives that started over one hundred years ago.  With his flowery language and huge popularity he very well might succeed, but at a tremendous cost to our nation and our liberty.  It could mean the end of our brief experiment in self government, by the people, of the people, for the people.

In the end, the majority will be grouped with the minority as subjects of Kings and Royalty in the State of America of a World government.  Back to where we were when our forefathers had a grand vision of liberty and started a revolution.
