No one really knows for sure what can cause you to suffer from nausea during pregnancy but it is most likely due to a combination of the many physical changes which are taking place in your body. Some possible causes of morning sickness are:

Estrogen, which is a hormone that rises rapidly in early pregnancy. When you are pregnant, some women have an enchanced sense of smell and sensitivity to certain odors. The perfume you wore two weeks ago, you may not be able to stomach today and may trigger your gag reflux. Some women think this has to do with the rising levels of estrogen.

Pregnancy also has an effect on your stomach, your gastrointestinal tract may become more sensitive to the changes your body is facing during early pregnancy. Another hormone that rises rapidly during pregnancy is the human chorionic gonadotropin which is more commonly referred to as hCG. hCG rises during early pregnancy, although no one is sure how hCG contributes to morning sickness or nausea, but it does tend to peak around the same time as levels of hCG rise.

Sometimes during pregnancy your OB will have to prescribe medication in order to treat morning sickness and to prevent nausea. It is important to eat healthy and to stay away from certain foods that may aggravate your nausea. Certain foods you may have enjoyed in the past may trigger a gag reflux now that you are pregnant.

Remember if you are suffering from extreme nausea and vomiting anytime during your pregnancy to consult with your doctor.
