Three Ways to Properly Maintain Your Paper Folding Machine

A paper folding machine is the cornerstone to a productive office and it can effectively do what most humans can't: perfectly fold all your company's correspondence documents at a fast pace. You probably use your paper folder a lot and you undoubtedly want to be able to use your machine for a long time to come, as well as honor its warranty. The best way to do this is to perform some simple preventative maintenance. This article will tell you three ways you can easily maintain your paper folder to preserve its efficacy.

  • Cover the machine when you're not using it. This will keep dust and debris from settling on the rollers. Dirty rollers can hamper your productivity by causing paper jams - and no one likes dealing with the frustration of a paper jam! While covering the machine will help keep it clean, you'll still need to clean the paper folder at some point. When you notice your machine getting dirty, you'll want to clean it right away to prevent paper jams and misfeeds.

  • Be selective about which cleaning products you use. When it comes time to clean your paper folder, you'll need to be careful about which cleaners you use. First of all, never use rubbing alcohol to clean your paper folder. Although rubbing alcohol is inexpensive, it can be costly to use it on your machine because it can dry out and crack the machine's rollers. The best cleaner to use is a roller cleaner rejuvenator which will effectively remove all traces of dust and ink from the rollers. It also won't dry out the rubber. If you don't have a rejuvenator available, water and some mild soap should do the trick.

Before you clean the machine, make sure to unplug it so you don't electrocute yourself. Also, make sure your hair, jewelry, and clothing won't get caught in the machine. As for the actual cleaning, it's easy. Be sure to clean all the rollers, as well as the paper feed tires and separator. If you can easily remove the rollers, you might want to do so to clean them thoroughly. If they can't be removed, just leave them where they are to prevent damaging the machine.

  • Keep an eye on the parts. Cleaning your paper folder is only part of the regular maintenance you should perform. The other important thing to do is regularly check certain parts of the machine to see if they need to be replaced. The parts to check are the rollers, rubber brake, and paper feed separators. You'll be able to easily tell if the rollers are worn because they'll likely be cracked or too smooth to effectively pull the paper. If you're unsure of whether a certain part needs to be replaced, consult your owner's manual or call a professional who can help you out.

These three paper folder maintenance tips are not only easy to perform, they'll keep your machine in pristine working condition so your office can thrive. Perform some maintenance on your paper folder today and reap the rewards a properly maintained machine can bring!
