If you are interested in more information about the Fastback PowisPrinter or are looking for Fastback Binding Machines or Fastback Binding Strips you should visit MyBinding.com. They are the largest online dealer for Powis Parker Fastback products in the United States. In fact, they carry the entire line of Powis Parker Fastback binding products.
If your text is too long or too tall for the strip, the printer won't print your strip. Once you press PRINT, the printer will advise you of this. This message - which tells you what to do - flashes very quickly, and then returns to the Text Screen. If you miss it, you can try one of the three options listed below. However, sometimes you will need to try several of these options to make your text fit and appear properly on your strip. The more strip printing and design that you do the easier that this process will get.
Option 1: Delete Some Text
Sometimes your text will not fit on your strip because your line of text is too long. If you do have too much text, an obvious solution is to edit some of your title so that it's shorter. If you aren't thrilled about loosing the extra text you can always split it between two lines (provided you are using the landscape orientation). However, getting rid of part of your title still may not be your first choice. Good thing there are a couple of other options.
Option 2: Reduce the Font Size or Autofit
Your text might not fit because the font size is too tall. For example, if you have a narrow book, and you've selected 96 as your point size, the title's not going to fit. To correct this, press MENU, and select 2 (FONT SIZE). You can either decrease the font size, or press A to AutoFit the text. If you choose AutoFit, the printer will automatically size your text to fit the width of your book (provided that the text isn't too long at the minimum font size). With the PowisPrinter you can select any font size between 8pt and 96pt. You may need to experiment a little bit to find the font size that looks best for your title and layout.
Option 3: Change the Orientation
Perhaps your text won't fit because it's too long for its orientation. This usually happens in Portrait orientation, which fits only a few characters. Both Landscape and Stacked orientations fit more text, so try either one.
If your book is less than 38 sheets, the front flap of the strip (the part that wraps around the cover) is actually wider than the spine. In this situation-when the front flap has more room for titling the PowisPrinter offers you the option of printing your title on this flap. Using this front flap gives you a little more space and flexibility. When you have your title design ready to go, press PRINT and enter your book thickness. The printer will suggest your front-flap option and the display will read "Book Is Too Thin for Best Edge Titling. Print Front Flap of Strip Instead?" Press Y to print on the front flap; N to print your title on the book edge as usual. If you choose to print on the book edge, don't worry about your title's appearance. It'll be as good-looking as ever-if a touch small.
