A sustainable workplace of the future – developed in the unlikely setting of a 1960s London office block – has secured a national environmental accolade.
Office refurbishment specialist Morgan Lovell has won a Green Apple Award for its pioneering work at its own London-based headquarters.
Located in Noel Street, Soho, the building was the type of development that would have previously been viewed as an environmental write-off.
However, Morgan Lovell’s office design and build team worked together to create a cost-effective and stylish workplace that is in tune with the environment.
The project went on to achieve the highest BREEAM fit out environmental assessment score to date in the UK.
Morgan Lovell will receive its Green Apple trophy at the House of Commons in November.
David Henderson, managing director of Morgan Lovell, said: “The Noel Street office is increasingly being seen as a blueprint in terms of workplace design for the future.
“It is an ongoing, live case study, testing and trialling sustainable projects for use in our office refurbishment projects across the country.
“The building is also used for fact-finding visits, by organisations such as the British Institute of Facilities Management, to share ideas and results in order to introduce more sustainable offices that balance environmental concerns with economy.”
As well as the Green Apple Award, the Noel Street project has also been shortlisted in the 99% Campaign for Refurbishment, developed to find the best examples in the UK of carbon being cut in existing buildings. The award is organised by Building magazine and the winner is announced on 18 November 2008.
Morgan Lovell’s green office is also in the finals of the PFM Awards, the winners of which are announced in November.
