More Merder, Less Gizzie on Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy fans can now relax as their favorite supercouple seem to have a clear path ahead. The Emmy award-winning medical drama is set to be serving more MerDer in the fourth and upcoming season, as Shona Rhimes, the series' creator, believes that there's no one else for Derek (Patrick Dempsey) but Meredith.

Rhimes clarified to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello that Derek is indeed truly in love with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), and that she can't picture him being with another woman.

Last season's ending was a cliffhanger not only for the show but for the supercouple's love story as well. Fans of the MerDer tandem were worried about the fate of the lovers, as the two talked about Meredith's commitment to the relationship in the third season finale. Derek reiterated that he loved her, but asked her to end the relationship if she isn't ready to make it in the long term. Meredith on the other hand did not respond to his thoughts, thus viewers were left hanging on what will happen next in their relationship.

Rhimes has given her verdict on the MerDer case, but there will be bad news for the Gizzie romance held by Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George's (T.R. Knight). If fans want this relationship to last beyond the next season, they'd be disappointed at Rhimes' decision for their love story.

Rhimes admitted to Ausiello that quite a number of people "aren't sold on Izzie and George" and that it was a "mistake" to think that they're the "love story of the century" as they are not.

"And when other people find out about Izzie and George — remember, people don't know about them yet — other people might think that's not a good idea either," Rhimes concluded.

Grey's Anatomy returns on Thursday, September 27, without the two characters played by Kate Walsh and Isaiah Washington. Walsh will take the lead in the Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice and Washington was consequently let go from the show, as he had an anti-gay slur against Knight. He will be appearing on NBC's Bionic Woman instead.
