Printing on Colored Paper
Printing on colored paper is truly a novel idea. You can achieve a different look for your business cards or any print product that it is you want just by changing the paper stock or card stock. With the variety of paper out there, differing in thickness, weight and color, you can pull off numerous look and combinations.
While the possibilities for printing on colored paper can be endless, you do have to consider the pros and the cons that come with it. Here some of the things you should know before you embark on this kind of printing project.
CONS
1. Printing on colored paper is not highly recommended by your printer, unless the printing companies hold a select kind of colored paper or they specialize in the matter.
2. Printers work with paper not as just any other medium, but the main platform which will carry your design and will wear your colors.
3. Printers calibrate their machines to the paper used. In this manner, it is important for the printer to be familiar with the paper and know how it works with the machines and other regular conditions.
4. Colored papers are mostly uncoated. This means that there is a possibility for your prints to experience dot gain. This is where the prints seep into the paper and not sit on it. When this happens, your prints’ colors become darker. The contrast and shadow detail in your prints are also sacrificed.
5. You would have to make your colors harder with colored paper, unless you know you to calibrate your designs or colors effectively against an unpredictable colored paper.
You would have to balance your colors and neutralize certain ones. So that you can preserve your original design and you won’t have to worry about colors losing their intensity or brightness.
PROS
1. While printing on colored paper isn’t really new, be sure to get a professional printing company who can successfully achieve 4 color printing on colored paper.
2. Make sure that you also start on this project early so you can work closely with your printer. And at the same time, you can meet your deadline even if there are any unforeseen delays.

4. With a colored paper, you can ob
serve a distinct texture which you may not see in other stocks.
