Choosing the poster size can be tricky. At a glance, all posters seem to offer the same advantages. But a closer and a more in-depth knowledge can show you the most important differences in 18x24 poster printing versus other media.
Mainly, what you should look at is where these posters will be placed, how it will serve well or affect your campaigns and as to how this will affect the need for flexibility and durability.

The 18 x 24 poster is a flexible poster. It can be designed for outdoor advertising or indoor advertising, or both. Here are points to ponder on where the strength of 18x24 posters lies:
Size

• There are different standard poster sizes to choose from, the 11 x 17, 18 x 24, 24 x 36, and the 27 x 39 for offset posters. Choosing the size of the poster depends largely on the environment the poster will be placed in.

• Small posters are best for indoor spaces that have limited space, and short viewing distances. When the poster is too large, it will most likely not fit in a strategic place like an overcrowded and small hallway or a small bulletin board. Posters that are too small on the other hand might be drowned out by its surroundings.

• When advertising for both indoor and outdoor areas however, it is best to strike a compromise. Compared to the 24 x 36 or the 27 x 39 poster sizes, the `18 x 24 is small enough to fit in most indoor bulletin boards.

• It is not as small as the 11 x 17 and might stick out in certain small areas as a consequence, but it should fit snuggly on walls, pillars, and doors, without being too much of an obstruction.

• Being bigger is an advantage when it comes to visual appeal. The bigger size has a better chance of catching attention especially when placed outdoors. It is big enough to compete with the small legal sized posters or the 11 x 17 posters especially if there isn’t any competition around.
Material

• Large format printers can be printed on different materials other than paper. Instead of limiting yourself to offset 18x24 poster printing, you can have a large format job and dictate the 18x24 size yourself.

• If you choose to have a unique poster that evokes a more artistic feel, you may opt for a canvas print that imbibes the texture and feel of paintings. The artist canvas is made of cloth and is more durable than the paper material.

• The artist canvas is water resistant (water slides of and does minimal damage, but is not water proof) and can be printed with archival ink to minimize fading due to sun exposure.

• Vinyl banners are made up of synthetic material. It generally has the same strengths of the artist canvas but has a different texture. It is water resistant, resistant to fading but is much more durable than canvas. This material is perfect for outdoor advertising and can last a few years under normal conditions.

• You can also use paper material for outdoor prints, but this has to be coated with the UV finish if the weather is especially humid. The UV coat minimizes sun damage that leads to fading. It adds to the paper’s thickness and weight, making it more durable than the regular paper stocks.

These are just some of the choices you have for your 18x24 poster printing. Work with your offset printing company or large format printer and get posters that perform under any weather.
