Many people go into booklet printing with an agenda in mind – to produce a material which can be used for their personal, commercial or corporate success. Most of the time, such booklets turn into catalogs, user’s guides, manuals, story books, recipe books and the like.
Booklets are very versatile and can be shaped whichever way you like. You can turn it into a marketing material, a corporate or business document and as an investments as a whole.
However you wish it to be, however you fashion your booklets to function in your desired goals, all this would be for naught it you fail to follow certain measures and precautions. For even if printing has become more accessible and less complicated, you still need to make sure that everything about your file is all set.
Preparing your file properly is crucial. It is part of a series of steps and processes of your printing. If you don’t have the right configurations, your whole plan and itinerary could back fire. The littlest of errors should be avoided so you don’t go back to square one.

1. Put it aside
Most of the time, people rush to have their files printed. Being efficient is good, but rushing everything may not be for everyone. A trick to checking for errors in your file, be it the design, layout or text, is to put it aside and forget about it for a day or too.
When it is time for you to review your file, you’ll find that you gain a different perspective. You can spot your errors easily and see where changes are needed.
2. You Can Still Use the Templates
Templates are provided for by most online companies for their standard products, along with the sizes. If you haven’t used them in designing your file, you can still use the templates to check your final design with concerns to alignment, bleeds and the like.
3. The Bleeds, Zones and Alignment
The templates provided by the printing companies have the right size for your product of choice with corresponding bleed size. Bleeds are a requirement posed by major printing companies.
Other than these, you can use the template to measure if your design is centered. You can check too important texts and details are all in the safe zone and are at a certain distance from the trim line.
4. Resolution
Without using the proper resolution for your prints, your printer cannot print a high-quality and sharp print out of your designs. Check if you’ve set it at 300dpi for offset products. Fonts too should be saved at 400dpi.
5. Include original photos, artworks and fonts.
Printing companies ask you to send in the photos and artworks that you have used. All of which should be in CMYK mode. The fonts, most especially, if they are uncommon should be included, or else your original fonts will be lost.
If you’re file is highly erroneous, printers have the right to refuse it and you may find yourself doing your work all over again. You don’t want this to happen especially if you’re running after a deadline.
While online printing is easy, you still have to consider the length of time it takes for production to complete your booklets. You don’t need this kind of hassle. Provide plenty of room for yourself and for your printer to review your work.
It is best to remember these pointers so your printing goes ahead as planned. Booklet printing can be a piece of cake or a challenge, but both ways, you need to prepare your files correctly so you’ll have your booklet printing done in a jiffy.
