One way to keep your name in front of customers, and also potential customers is to give them an advertising piece that they will have a reason to keep. Calendars and Magnet Postcards are good examples of items that consumers keep for long periods of time at home or at the office. They are both wonderful tools and serve their purpose well, but they can be a bit expensive. Another option for a printed piece that people will want to keep is the humble bookmark.
A bookmark can be thought of as a business card v2.0 or maybe a business card on steroids. It is larger than a regular business card and therefore can have more information, coupons, or important data - I have even seen a bookmark that supported the American Cancer Society with information on how people could donate. Yet they are cheap - your are not supposed to use the word cheap in describing a product, but sometimes the most obvious word works best - they are usually just a little bit more expensive than your typical 2"x3.5" business card, so you can hand them out to anyone and everyone and not worry about getting yelled at by the general manager for giving away too many samples indiscriminately.
But the best part about a bookmark is that if you give some to somebody, they usually give the extras to people they know - they are regifted. So your low cost, low tech bookmark is passed around offices and homes. At some point in time everybody needs a bookmark.
Something you might want to remember when designing a bookmark is to use large fonts with your company name. The peripheral information can be the standard sized font that is used on a business card, but in this case, make sure your company name really stand out. Also, use a thick paper with a UV coating to help the bookmark last for a while. You hope that it is used for a long period of time, so you might as well make sure that it is printed on paper that will stand up to a lot of use - I suggest using a 14pt C2S. And don't forget the UV coating, it can help the bookmark last longer.
Hand the bookmarks out like you are a greeter at a convention and always leave more than one so that the regifting can begin.
