Canvas Printing – A Beautiful Art

Canvas Printing is nothing but an art. Canvas Prints is also known as stretched canvas or canvas art. Canvas printing is mainly an image printed on a canvas. It is usually gallery-wrapped and is generally displayed on a frame. The word “Canvas” means “made of hemp”.

 Methods of Printing:-

From ages, the main fine arts have been printed on canvas. It is mainly done using offset printing. Offset printing is a method where inked image is at first transferred from a plate to a rubber blanket and then afterwards to the printing surface. Canvas prints can also be done with either dye sublimation or ink jet print processes. The canvas print is generally made up of cotton. Now-a-days plastic canvas known as Poly Canvas is available in the market. It is cheaper and is used for the reproduction of photographic images.

The facility of canvas printing is now present on modern large format printers. The canvas rolls are usually of 60 inches or more than that. Recent inkjet printers are capable of printing on canvas directly. Few examples of inkjet printers are HP Designjet z6100 and the Epson Stylus Pro 9880. These types of printers help the artists and photographers to directly print onto the canvas media. Various types of printed canvas are available in the market. Printed Canvas which is made for wall art has some weight nearly 400gsm.

Display Methods:-

The main work for canvas printing is done mainly after the image is printed. At first the printing is glued or stapled to a standard stretcher bars or a wooden panel. After that it is displayed in a frame or as a gallery warp. Gallery warp is nothing but a method of stretching an artist’s canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and remains secured to the back of the frame. Once the gallery wrap is completed, the print which is designed around the edges of stretched frame is known as full-bleed. It is used to increase the 3D effect of the mounted print and as a result it looks beautiful.
