How To Toughen Up Your Hang Tags

Your product hang tags will usually experience a lot of different kinds of environments that can damage or deteriorate its quality. Depending on your product, hang tags may be exposed to extreme moisture or dryness, elevated heat or cold, physical tortures and other unforeseen circumstances. If you plan on making your hang tags survive these difficult hurdles, you may want to invest in tougher options in hang tag printing. As a guide, I will share with you a few of my strategies on how to toughen up product hang tags.

1. Strengthen the hang tag medium - Your first move should be to just strengthen the hang tag paper or print medium. In most cases, hang tags are printed in normal paper. To toughen these up, you can try using thicker paper that can resist being folded or otherwise being physically deformed. Besides this, you can also try having your hang tag papers applied with special coatings which resist moisture and dirt giving the hang tag a glossy finish. If that doesn't satisfy you, the toughest option you can try is to change the material altogether from paper to more enduring materials like plastic, wood or even metal.

2. Invest in better inks – Next, you can also try investing in better quality inks. Inks will usually fade in hang tags especially when they get exposed to water and other liquids. To prevent this from happening, you can “toughen up” your inks by asking your hang tag printer to use quick drying inks with moisture resistant coatings. This way any kind of substance can assail your hang tag content, and your designs will still be intact afterwards.

3. Considering tougher coupling material – Besides the hang tag itself though, it is also important to try tougher coupling materials. Coupling materials are the things that attach the hang tag to the product. In most cases this is just a simple string or twine to be cheap. However, strings and twine can't last too long without breaking. To make it tougher, it is good to consider using plastics and metallic couplings to make the attachment stronger. Of course make sure that the hang tag itself can also handle the tougher coupling that you chose.

4. Looking at covers or laminates - Finally, your last stage in toughening up your hang tags is by just covering the whole hang tag up or laminating it. By physically protecting it using laminates or plastics, you effectively eliminate the chance of your hang tags from deteriorating early. It might be a bit expensive to do, but it will protect your hang tags for a very long time.

So those are the things you can do to toughen up your hang tags. It might take a little bit more work than usual, but the protections that you place should be more than worth it to get your brand name or company logo displayed in your products without danger of damages.
