The remarkable feat does not solely lie on the number of years it spent on top. It was that it managed to maintain, if not outdo its performance despite the recent and most serious economic downturn since the Great Depression. On top of that, it is still growing. It has more than 1,500 stores that are due to serve more Subway sandwiches this year.
So what makes it click? Well, according to an article on Entrepreneur.com, people would rather spend money on a hunger-satiating sandwich than, say a cup of premium coffee from Starbucks which doesn’t deviate much from the former in terms of price.
Being a complete meal at a low price, a Subway sandwich may fall under someone’s list of necessities, as substitute to the regular meals he takes. A drink from the coffee giant, however, would most likely be regarded as luxury, considering its price and little nourishment factor. Simply put, Subway gives a better value for the dollar.
