I was recently asked this question: When taking over a brand new team, which is most important popularity or progress? I smiled. The term popularity during the 15th century started out as a word that meant least, low, vulgar, and/or of the common people. It took on a new meaning in the late eighteenth century by which time it began to gain a positive connotation. Another example of man manipulating change.
The difference is that progress has always meant what it means today. To be clear, I’m not some degree toting factanista that needs to be addressed by title. I’m just ripe with common sense. The way I see it, progress combines an appreciation for the positive impacts of your actions and thoughts with the emotional response of the participants involved. Progress results in doors being opened. More frequently.
Make no mistake; popularity is not at all bad. Just know that as employees, entrepreneurs, Royal Ambassadors, and Triple Diamond Black Pearls, you are better pursuing two parts progress and one part popularity. Don’t be fooled by the hundreds of friends on your MY SPACE page. That certainly is not a reliable measurement of success for you or your business. It’s Monday – seek progress – let’s keep it moving!

I actually read a lot of your blogs. You have done wonderful work. Though there was some questions which I had and I was hoping if you can shed some light in. To explain my situation 1) My medical fellowship job terminated 09/04/08 while my H1B status was till 09/30/08 2) The current employer had applied for the extension/ change of status, and the notice was sent out by USCIS 09/03/08 for a start date from 10/01/08 (by the same employer only - the termination was a mistake due to loss of paperwork due to flooding in the office and they were changing me from traineee to faculty, I was supposed to be on leave without pay from 09/04/08 - 10/01/08) 3) Hurricane came and everything closed down. Now on 10/30/08 our international office is saying that since I was terminated (by mistake though) 09/04/08 and had a break in employment, I have to leave the country and I can not start work till the actual H1B Approval comes Qs 1) Can I just resume work since the H1B portability timing is good. I applied before the termination and I have received the notice. 2) Do I have to wait for the H1B approval to come before I can start work and do I have to leave the country 3) Can I get another job and get premium processing done and quickly get myself in the legal status. Thank you for your help.

I want to buy a service business that has no assets. The owner is selling his knowledge and a client base that seems to be reflected in his sole-proprietorship tax returns. How can I be sure his numbers were not fabricated for this sale? Also, what can I use as protection clause in the offer to buy in case once I give him the money, I find out the prospects are not what they were represented to be?
