Jaded in Paradise. A twentysomething's insight on working in a coffee shop as a barista and dating in a world of commitment phobes, players and weirdos all the while trying to figure out what life is really about. Native to Fort Lauderdale, a city considered to be paradise by many, the blogger finds herself jaded by what goes on around her. "I'm jaded, jaded in paradise."
The sun was shining as it always does in South Florida and one of the most chill, laid back guys I've met mentioned his desire to move away. Alarmed my his comment I had to ask:
"Where are you moving?"
"Where? ANYWHERE but HERE!" he exclaimed as he nudged his black framed glasses back into place on his nose.
"Are you leaving Florida too?"
"Yeah, I want to live in a place where the people are normal, man. You know once you go north of Palm Beach County, people are just different. I've lived in other places and I've never seen a place like here."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I want to go somewhere where the ladies are nice and have not been so alienated by all the Hummer Guys hitting on them around South Florida."
"You haven't met anyone nice here? How can geography affect your dating life?"
"Nowhere else have I come across people like here. It's like this in South Florida: you either have the gold diggers who are looking for a sugar daddy or you have the used-to-be nice girls who have been hit on so many times by the Hummer Guys that they are too skeptical to get involved with anyone. And you think you are jaded?"
"Yeah, I do..."
"Outside of South Florida, you can actually meet nice girls who are not jaded. So, I want to go where there aren't any Hummer Guys who ruin it for the rest of us."
"I don't know what you mean by a Hummer Guy. Are you talking about a player?"
"Yeah, pretty much, but these guys are distinct to South Florida. You find these guys in Gold's gym, wearing a t-shirt two sizes too small who act like they have money to burn. So, they drive expensive cars , but in reality, all of their credit cards are maxed out and they are only one missed payment away from losing their homes. They hit on any lady who walks like a misbehaved hound dog on the prowl for some..."
"OK..I know what you are talking about and yeah, those guys are totally annoying!"
"And since they constantly hit on all the ladies, when a nice guy comes around they are so damn jaded they no longer can distinguish who is a nice guy and who is out to play them. So, here I am with my hands tied behind my back."
"There's a lot of truth to what you are saying..."
"That's why I'm leaving. I'm going to go live in a place soon where the Hummer Guys are near to non-existent and the nice girls can cleary appreciate when the nice guys are interested in them."
