Skinner’s Theory of Operating Conditioning

One more theory, which deals with the problems of conscious, is the theory of B.F. Skinner. This theory is based on operant conditioning. It means the organism that operates on the environment. During this operating people obtain a special kind of stimulus, whish are also called reinforcing stimulus. This stimulus is used for the effect of increasing the behavior that is taking place just before the stimulus. Skinner states that the behavior stands before the consequence, and everything depends on the consequence, that is its nature predetermines whether the organism would repeat the behavior in future or not. Speaking in other words, if a person has made the choice that had negative influence, he would never do this again; and vice verse if that choice was positive, a person would tend to make the identical choices in the situation.
There are different points of view as for the question of “self” and each person has her personal attitude to this problem. Actually there are a lot of selves inside of people. Social self is some kind of behavior which one shows in public, internal self is something that is known only to the person. People have many different sides and can present them in different ways. For example, the presenting yourself is different in different situations and surroundings: at home, at school, at work or at the party. These situations show different visions of oneself. Everything depends on different factors, the home, and the problems that person faced, solutions and the consequences of these solutions. These are the factors that help to build person’s psyche.
It does not matter whether people adopt all the factors, mentioned above, or not, they always have an opportunity to look at them and study them. The society always expect the best behavior from people, but the main aim is to act not only in a way, acceptable by society, but in a way that is acceptable to oneself.
