Smoking has harmful effects on the body, and every smoker knows that. There are thousands who try to quit every day, but few have ever really succeeded. If a chosen method did not work out in the past, keep trying until you succeed. Preparation plays an important role in ensuring your success in achieving a smoke-free lifestyle.
Here are some things that you can do to help you quit smoking.
1. Inform those around you that you are quitting. They will be happy with your efforts and will be glad to remind you when you have the urge to smoke. When you have the support of those you love, the chances of stopping smoking will be much higher.
2. Set a date to quit. When the big date comes, be sure to stick to your plan. Remind yourself that today will be the greatest day ever because you are going to lead a whole new life, free of smelly smoke and disgusting taste in your mouth. Think of the days before you pick up smoking. Your new life starts now.
3. Throw away all the smoking stuff such as lighters and ashtrays. Lighters and ashtrays will remind you of smoking. You do not need these reminders.
4. Exercise. Exercising takes your mind off smoking and helps to keep your body healthy and strong. Exercise helps your body to perspire and in the process, flush out the toxins that have accumulated in your body over the years as a smoker.
5. Doing breathing exercises. Breathe deeply in through the mouth and hold for a few seconds. Then exhale through the nose. Doing deep breathing exercises helps you clear up your lungs.
