Asking yourself why you should quit smoking may seem like a counter productive thing to do. But if one of the answers is ‘because I can’t’ then you have made that important admission to yourself that will help you finally quit. Admitting that we have a problem often goes a long way to solving it. This article will uncover the reasons we actually lie to ourselves because we lack the confidence to tackle what we perceive as our weakness in our inability to stop smoking.

If you see yourself as a pretty strong person, and that smoking is your one weakness, you may feel that it is OK to indulge yourself. After all, you work hard; you encounter stress, why should you not be allowed a little indulgence? You may feel that by smoking, you are only harming yourself, and that it is up to you. That, to a point, would be perfectly true.

If you see smoking as a reward, then quitting smoking must seem like a punishment. You may feel although you are being deprived of this wonderful pleasure. That is often where the lie comes in. You are doing it because you cannot stop. You are risking your health every time you light a cigarette because you are addicted to nicotine. There is no blame being attached here, it is just the way things are.

In taking away the crutch that you feel cigarettes give you, you may feel that you will flounder. Nicotine may have served you well in all sorts of situations for many years. But you really can cope without it. Imagine how much better your health will be and how much better you will feel about yourself without being a slave to your addiction.

Ask yourself that question ‘why should I quit smoking’ next time you are in a situation where you want to smoke and are unable to. You may just give yourself some meaningful and insightful answers.

You are not alone. Millions of people are facing the same issues as you. By clicking on the link, you will be taken to the UQuit forum where you are bound to get much more insight.

Good luck.
