Austin, Houston

According to internet search inquiries on the Yahoo network, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio Texas each made the top 10 cities searched for the month of December. Based on that simple fact, Texas is definitely hot (both literally and figuratively.) Of the top ten markets queried on the Yahoo network, over 516,000 of them were for cities in the state of Texas -- that's over 36% of those searches.

Granted, Texas, as well as many states in warm climates are typically searched for far more often in winter months. In fact, 9 of the top-10 cities searched in December are in warm climates. (The only exception was Chicago Illinois -- and it came in 10th.) Regardless, the simple fact that 3 Texas cities made the "top ten list" for December, and represented over 36 percent of those searches, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that Texas real estate is on the move.

According to Kate Morton of the Austin American Statesman, "Central Texas home builders have been offering plenty of year-end discounts and bonuses to boost sales, but that doesn't mean that the Austin area housing market is cooling or that prices are falling. Strong job growth, a steady influx of new residents and relatively affordable prices have kept the Austin housing market strong, even as markets on the East and West coasts faltered. That isn't likely to change in the coming year." This article, along with many others like it, have likely spurred interest in the Texas market across the nation. Pair that with the fact that Austin, Houston and San Antonio are 3 great metro areas of Texas, and it's not hard to figure out why Texas has been such a popular area.

If you're debating investing in Texas real estate, the fact that over half a million people were thinking likewise in the month of December is certainly a sign that Texas real estate just might be a good investment in 2007. Be sure to consult with your Texas real estate agent for real estate information in the area you're thinking of buying in.
