Buying a property in the Lot and Garonne Countryside

When we go on holiday, most of us just want to get away from it all – away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the stress it generates on a day-to-day basis. An increasing number of people are looking to go one step further and are actively looking for property for sale in South West France. For many people looking for vacation property, South West France is a natural choice and many have been attracted in particular to Gascony property.

The region of Gascony is relatively untouched by modernity, possessing a quiet charm that it has retained since the medieval ages. If you are seeking a quiet getaway, the French countryside is one of the best places to spend your holiday. If you want to experience the best of the French countryside, then there is no better place to go to than Lot-et-Garonne.

The Most Beautiful Countryside in France

Lot and Garonne is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in France. The province roughly refers to the area that is defined by the river Garonne and its tributary, the river Lot. It would seem that time stood still in this particular spot in France, as it is so far removed from the noise and hectic atmosphere that you would expect from a big urban sprawl such as Paris.

Time may have indeed stood still in Lot and Garonne. Medieval bastide towns stand intact and buzzing with life despite the passing of centuries, overlooked by their castles perched on the hillsides, and in such immaculate condition that they appear as if they were built only yesterday. Henry IV of Navarre, hailed as the greatest king that France has ever known, spent his youth in Lot-et-Garonne and is still regaled as a local hero despite having lived more than four-hundred years ago.

Outside the bastides are the rolling hills and plains, dotted here and there by the occasional vineyard, hardly surprising since Lot and Garonne borders Gers, a well known wine region. In terms of agriculture, Lot and Garonne is famous for its prunes, called pruneau in French.

Lot and Garonne is a popular tourist destination. However, we are fortunate that the region remains pristine and it is still untouched by the commercial crassness that often accompanies overemphasis on tourism and its related industries.

Buying a Lot and Garonne Property

If you are looking for a quiet place to buy property for sale in south west France for a holiday home, you should consider making your purchase a Lot and Garonne property. When everything threatens to become too overwhelming in the city, tt can be your hideaway, your sanctuary. The place is a charming spot where you can live a laidback life even for just a few days.

A Lot and Garonne property is also a good investment to make for the future. The quaint appeal of the region is drawing tourists who wish to live there quietly, be it only for a few days at a time. In addition, Lot and Garonne is paradise for nature lovers. There are caves for exploring, trails for hiking, and rivers for sailing and canoeing.
