You've been dreading it for months. Though you're excited about your new home and the prospect of finally moving into it, you've been trying not to think about the herculean effort it's going to take to pack up the contents of your current home and move it to a new place. The one year rule is one of your mightiest tools when it comes to clearing out the clutter. Basically, if you haven't worn it, used it, or even thought about it for four complete seasons or more - get rid of it. Break Ups: Time to Make up or Move on
If you've been hoarding broken things in the hope that you will one day repair them, judgment day has finally arrived. It's time to repair these hangers-on or get rid of them. This rule also applies to items with important missing pieces: the coffeemaker without a coffee pot, the chess set with no queen, the Popsicle maker with no sticks and the Tupperware container with no lid.
