The first thing you should do is make sure you have the right mindset. Real estate investing requires you to think a lot differently than if you just had a normal 9 to 5 job. One of the best ways you can get into this mindset is by reading about and learning from people who have it already. Reading such authors as Robert Kiyosaki and Napolean Hill will start changing the way you think and look at business. In addition to developing a mind that can analyze and understand deals, you’ll also get valuable insight into many aspects of money and investing that you can even use outside of your business.
Ok, so you’re starting to build up your business mindset. What’s next? Well, if you’re like me when I started, you don’t have a lot of cash available to start with. No problem. There is a massive amount of information available for your use out there on the internet. Most of it is either free or can be had for song. Now what? Well, at this point you have trained yourself to see the world like an investor and your learning more and more about the business all the time. Don’t stop there! Don’t be one of those people who just keeps reading and studying and never does anything with their knowledge. Start taking action! Set a goal for a number of houses to evaluate, say 50 to start with. Start going to open houses. Get to know some local Realtors. And, this is very important, join a local Real Estate Investor Association and start interacting with the other investors in your area.
These are a few of the things that new investors should do when they decide to enter this business. These tips will get you started, but remember, you should NEVER stop learning. Real estate investing will take work and dedication.
