Are you tired of winter, and maybe ready for some change in your life? A great place to start is right where you live. Paint some walls; get some new accessories, or maybe a add new piece of furniture or artwork.

If that isn't enough, it may be time to do some remodeling. Here are a few ideas for some of the trendiest reno jobs out there, and definitely guaranteed to shake things up at home.

Cook in style by adding one or two high-end appliances or upgrades for the kitchen. Stainless-steel anything is all the rage, along with granite or concrete countertops, fridges disguised to look like cabinets, pot filler faucets (with extra long spouts), pull out shelving, or a fancy vent over your stove.

Build a patio kitchen and spend more time outdoors. These outside living spaces become extensions of your interior space, complete with cook tops, refrigerators, stocked cupboards and luxury dining areas.

Add a theatre to your home by customizing a room with a big-screen or projection TV, recessed lighting, surround sound and comfortable seating.

Gotta love those knock-off's. Manufacturers are coming up with realistic replacements for otherwise expensive materials. Good quality vinyl flooring and laminate flooring and countertops look almost like their wood or slate counterparts at first glance. Even faux stainless looks almost like the real thing.

Wash your clothes with pizzazz in a new fancy laundry room. Once the least thought of room in the house, these babies are being done up in style with bright colors, attractive appliances, and shelving organizers.

Storage concerns are coming to the forefront as homeowners find creative ways to store their stuff. Closets are being enlarged and organized, and garages are being de-cluttered and re-designed with extra shelves and holders for tools and toys.

Blue is the color for 2009 as well as the trend towards darker walls and wood surfaces. Be on the watch for rich, darker stains in flooring and cabinetry.

Get ready for the golden years if you plan on staying in your home for the long term. Start looking at senior friendly fixtures such as single-lever faucets, higher toilets, wall ovens, and shower grab bars.

Think green by replacing your chemical cleaners with natural eco-friendly versions. Explore easy-to-clean, non-porous kitchen and bathroom surfaces to replace butcher block or ceramic tile.
