Use Natural Lighting in Your Home

Natural lighting is one of the green concepts in home illumination. This is not something new, rather it is been an ancient practice. It has been long used since crunching of oil in 1970's. Only now, devices are invented to add sophistication in natural lighting.

The use of natural lighting in your home is called daylighting. In here, sunlight is used to provide illumination for your home interiors.

So why is the use of natural lighting becoming popular? Many people have greatly enjoyed the benefits of natural lighting. This is the main reason why it is gaining popularity. With the latest technology in daylighting, people are drawn to have their homes constructed with these features. Others are even opting for this improvement, despite the heavy cost for construction.

If you want to know its benefits, here are some of them:

- Reduces your cost of electricity as this fully or partially eliminates the use of energy for lighting. Energy used is sustainable.

- Opens up your home to the outside world; hence, giving amazing views. One view you will definitely enjoy is on a starry, starry night.

- Makes your interior look bigger. They give an illusion that makes your floor area larger. Moreover, the atmosphere becomes pleasing

- Sunlight brightens up moods, has a positive effect on one's perspective and makes you more active.

How to get natural lighting

There are several ways to spruce up your place with natural lighting. If you want to invest on the perks of having natural lighting, here are some ways to do it:

- Skylights. This has been gaining popularity since it does not only make your homes energy efficient. It also gives it a dramatic effect and an open sky view at night.

This option makes daylighting possible simply by using a glass or plastic window situated on the ceiling. The Lambertian diffuser makes possible the equal scattering of lights.

- Sun Tunnels. This option works similar to skylights. The only difference is their structure. In here, light is more controlled since the device used is not as wide as skylights. Solar light is collected on a metal tube and dispersed inside a particular room through the diffuser lens. They also have more advantage than skylights as to heat resistance.

- Clerestories. These are just plain windows. However, they are big and their location is above your eye level. However, they are not located on ceiling like skylights or sun tunnels. Light in here enters vertically or depending on the angle of the window. They minimize glaring and creates a lighting condition like the one you see in Basilicas or a church. They also maintain your privacy as the opening is located way above.

One thing you should know is that the cost of adding them in your homes may be costly. It should be constructed carefully using the right materials. Issues about heat gain should also be properly addressed in the construction process. You want to make sure you save energy in all ways. Moreover, it should not be offset by the energy consumed by your HVAC systems.
