Do you want to have a happier home? Do you want to live in a property where everything is convenient and comfortable? Well, you do not have to buy a new home just to have these privileges. In fact, you can just put some great new additions to your homes. It is the smartest way to utilize unused spaces and a great option to increase your home value.
Unused spaces are not the only candidates for making home additions. Even underused spaces can also be used for this project. One perfect example is your patio.
A patio can be underused in many ways. If you rarely stay at home or if you have not even used your patios for special occasions, then you might as well create a new room that you could use. Perhaps, it could be converted into an office space or a guestroom. You could even think about expanding your living room or create a sunroom to use all year-round. These options may be better than allowing your patios and the furniture around it to collect dust and spider webs.
Considerations for Converting Patios
Patios are great to use for home additions because it has space. It does not have much concrete on it. You do have to spend much for alterations or breaking walls, if it does not meet your desired size for an enclosed room. However, there are issues as to foundations. Since patios are just concrete slabs laid over the ground, homeowners might have to spend more for strengthening the foundation. This way it can be strong enough to hold additional concretes to use for putting up walls and stuff.
You also have to consider the insulation as well as the HVAC system. Since this will be an enclosed room, you will have to integrate this with your main house's heaters and air conditioning. And proper insulation must be thought about in order for you to use the space all-year round. You do not want to use the room and feel uncomfortably chilly during winter.
Reasons for Making Home Additions
There are two great reasons why you should push using underused patios for home additions. The first one is for increase in home value. Although people love having patios but there are other home additions that can give you better returns in investment. If you have no plans in improving the looks of your patios, then you might as well as convert it to something that increase your home functionality. In addition, you will get more money in re-selling it in the future.
Second, you could reap off tax benefits. Home improvements that are energy efficient, entitles homeowners to enjoy tax credit of as much as $1,500 dollars. If you have met the government's criteria for energy-efficiency, then grab this chance to lower your tax payables.
Look at your patio, now. Does it give you much satisfaction? If not, the best way to fully enjoy your home is to make great home additions and your patio just became the perfect candidate for conversion.
