How to Make Homemade Fresh Salsa and Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

Whether for yourself or for gifts there is nothing like homemade goodies.  Here are recipes for you to make your own salsa and homemade taco seasoning mix.  These items are sure to have family and friends asking about your recipe.  So keep some extra jars in your pantry.  When family and friends compliment your food, you can offer them their own jar.  These are also perfect for giving at holiday time, as housewarming gifts, or as hostess gifts.  Cut a pretty piece of fabric that matches the occasion and put it over the lid.  Tie it on with a pretty ribbon or piece of raffia.  


FRESH SALSA

8 med tomatoes, chopped

3/4 cup sliced green onions

1/3 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro

1/3 cup finely chopped onion

2 small jalapeno peppers, finely chopped (seeded if you don't want much heat)

1 can (2 1/4 oz) sliced ripe olives, drained

3 1/2 tsp fresh lime juice

1 tbsp cider vinegar

1 tbsp light olive oil

1 to 2 tsp chili powder (depending on your taste)

1 to 2 tsp ground cumin (depending on your taste)

1 tsp garlilc powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1/4 tsp salt

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Yields 8 cups.

Note:  When handling  jalapeno peppers, it is a good idea to use plastic gloves.  Do not touch your face or eyes when handling these jalapenos.


TACO SEASONING MIX

4 tsp dried minced onion

3 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cornstarch

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to one year.
