Locum Tenens consider smaller towns for a better Quality of Life!

Locum Tenens can be an enriching and rewarding experience if it is strategized according to your needs. In fact, even doctors with a permanent practice take-up such positions to break away from the monotony of a steady practice.

For example, a doctor who is engaged in family practice can apply for a temporary position in the ED of a small-town hospital. Yes, you heard it right! A small-town.

A lot of locum tenens physicians tend to get scared at the very idea. This is primarily because small-town healthcare facilities are often not up-to-the-mark with shortages of resources, overflow of patients and erratic work-timings.

But these are very minor issues to deal with considering the very unique gains – and physicians who have worked in small-towns can vouch for that. One experience is of getting the chance to treat ethnically diverse population, with patients ranging in age from infancy to the elderly.

People know one another and this can help to create a tighter sense of community, which is hard to find in a large city where many people would rather retain their anonymity. It is also an opportunity to meet a lot of interesting folks and build meaningful relationships with people who will really value you.

Living in remote areas can reduce the stress levels that are so often associated with physicians. The constant grind is replaced by the serenity of a relatively slow paced lifestyle.

And believe it or not, providing healthcare in remote areas devoid of advanced equipments can actually enhance your clinical skills because you have to be judicious and prudent in your diagnosis and treatment.

Then there are the financial benefits to working in smaller towns. These include lower costs, tax breaks for certain employers, funding for entrepreneurs and a deepening pool of skilled and educated workers.

Since there is always an acute shortage of doctors in small towns, you will always be in demand. So don’t let the idea of working in a small-town intimidate you.
