Browsing through professionally designed wedding invitations will give you an idea as to what it should look like and which ones are easiest to read. Pick a few that stands out and that appeals to you. The following are important considerations when planning the layout of do-it-yourself wedding invitations:
The size of the font
Having an easy to read, clear font
Be cautious when mixing up different font styles
Try different line spacing to determine which one reads the easiest
Leave enough open space between images and text
FONTS
The font you use will determine the feel of the invitation. Would you rather have something traditional or formal or contemporary or fun? A great resource for fonts is http://www.1001freefonts.com/.
You can even combine one or two different fonts but be very selective since it can become illegible and haphazard. Sometimes even just changing the weight and size of the fonts will create the desired effect.
Size does matter when it comes to fonts. Larger sized fonts are usually used for headlines and a safe size for the body will be 12 or 14. Most people find anything smaller than size 8 hard to read so make this the smallest you will go.
SPACING
The use of spacing is very important on any invitation. Attention is drawn to certain elements by leaving "white" space around the names of the bride and groom for instance. The names are really vital information and this will make it stand out.
The font size, if you are using caps or not and the position and amount of text will determine the spacing between lines. It is best to play with different settings until you are satisfied.
TEXT AND IMAGES
If you decide to use an image on your invitations, be sure to pay attention to the following. Leaving enough space between text and an image is important for the text to stand out as it should. And if you have text over a background image ensure to have enough contrast between the two elements for the best visual effect.
Hopefully these pointers will make you feel a bit more secure in the making of do-it-yourself invitations for your wedding. Like I said before it is a matter of breaking it down into steps and just following the steps one by one. You never know, you may even discover a creative streak you never knew you had!
