Second or encore weddings are also planned according to the etiquette for the first wedding. It differs somewhat though and if you are planning on getting married again, this article will certainly help you with the correct etiquette.
1. Firstly we will look at gift registry for encore weddings. Gifts are usually not given at second weddings according to the correct etiquette. The reason is that gifts are usually given at first weddings to help the new couple to set up their household by giving items from the selected gift registry. In the case of second or encore weddings the couple already has most of these items though and gift registry is not required.
Having said that it has become quite common to give gifts for encore weddings. Your friends may feel they want to give you something anyway and you can indeed register for gifts like for your first wedding. You can maybe consider registering for a certain theme like linen or art. Maybe you enjoy having a hobby together as a couple and can even list items that you can use for that.
2. A bridal shower for encore weddings are treated very much the same way. Although it is not the norm to have a bridal shower for encore weddings, your friends may feel that they would like to give you a shower anyway and that is quite acceptable even if it just for fun.
A great idea for a second wedding shower is to ask for items to stock the liquor cabinet like glasses, ice buckets, shakers or a favorite bottle of liquor which you can all enjoy together at some later date!
3. Thirdly but very importantly will be second wedding etiquette on the cost of the wedding. Since your parents probably already paid for your first wedding, it is not correct etiquette to ask them to pay for the second one as well. It is okay to accept if they want to help financially with the wedding though.
It is vital that the couple reach consensus about responsibility of all wedding expenses. Another way to do this is to split all the expenses and pay equal amounts since you are both getting married. It is not fair for one party to be responsible for all the expenses.
