As a spiritual-futurist, I have a BA degree majoring in history. One cannot know the future without knowing the past which holds clues to what is on the horizon. The world is in such a rapid expansion of knowledge that we are close to entering a tipping point that will forever change earth as we know it.
Hard core or "fundamentalist religionists" simply don't want to buy in to anything resembling a "co-creational" paradigm. However, I am of the community of people that believe that the earth was created for we humans and we humans have created the earth in return. Sound a bit confusing? Let’s try a baseball metaphor on for size since metaphors are about as close to defining God as we can get.
>Umpire # 1 says, "I call it like it is".
Here is where I would say the more traditional or classical Christian stands: especially those of the fundamentalist camp. The world is seen through the logos, the written word. Life grows out of what the Bible says because the Bible is inerrant and infallible. Thus those in this group call it like it IS, because it IS as it has been said that it IS regardless of what new scientific finding reveal. Thus it took the Catholic Church 300-400 years to finally say that Copernicus and Newton got it right.
>Umpire # 2 says, "I call it as I see it".
Now we're moving into more of a liberal or progressive camp where things are viewed based on what knowledge of the environment reveals to us. Things change. We see things differently than the authors of the Bible. We live in an entirely different world wherein scientific materialism has made much of the religious bias look silly if not ludicrous. And, to add to the mystery, those in this camp are more than willing to change "how they see things tomorrow" based on new findings and evidence.
>Umpire # 3 says, "There is nothing until I call it".
Everything is twice created! Quantum physics now proves that which is observed is changed by the one observing. Thus our SEEING is CREATING. We are truly co-creators with God even in a passive role. Just think, how things could be if we moved into a more active role with God. We have been given FREE WILL and that carries with it a great weight of responsibility.
Quantum physics is seemingly propelling the world into a greater basis for the existence of a more and practical and realistic God than religion. How has that happened? Aside from the answer to that question, how about this more important one? When am I going to get serious about awakening to I AM?
