Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are a rite of passage. It’s something sacred that you have been working towards for years and signifies that you are now a mature adult. It’s a time for celebration and a time for family to come together. This is a once in a lifetime event for you and your child thus it should be treated as such. When planning your event, have some fun by picking a theme then carry this theme over into your Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations!
The first thing you should do is decide on an overall theme for your Bar / Bat Mitzvah invitations. So how do you choose a theme that will be entertaining and fun, but does not overshadow the religious importance? Invitations to the event at your synagogue should be more formal but invitations to the reception can be as wild, crazy, and creative as you or your child wish to get! If your child is heavily involved in sports consider having sport themed invitations. Carry that over into invitations that have the concepts of sports behind them. You can even draw it into the shape of the invitation like a football shaped card.
If sports aren’t your child’s thing, consider one that has an almost cartoony feel to it if you wish to have an informal and relaxed reception. There are no rules or boundaries for your invitations, let your child create an idea the sky is the limit. Make no mistake about it, though, Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations are not the same as birthday party invitations. There are similarities but they should definitely be treated differently. Reputable printers have many options to choose from for both so don’t get discouraged.
Consider incorporating colors into your child’s Mitzvah as well. Color themes are just as important as choosing the right cake or the perfect DJ. Colors portray emotion so choose color combinations that reflect the tone and emotion of the Mitzvah as a whole. Then, carry this color theme over into the Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations. Colors bring endless options so do a little research to understand the emotions behind colors and their complementary colors. If you are considering using a party planner, be sure to ask them about their suggestions as well. Once you’ve decided on a theme and color combination, you are ready to create the perfect invitation.

Obama's escalation in Afghanistan, should Christians take a side?
By: Aaron Taylor | 03/12/2009On the eve of the election last November, I wrote a thinly-veiled endorsement of Barack Obama and blasted it out to my friends and family. Now after listening to President Obama's speech trying to sell the American people on his decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan, there's a verse of Scripture that's taken on a profound new significance, "Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man in whom there is no help" (Psalm 146:3).
Our Want Met by Rodney Howard Browne
By: Cecil Merritt | 03/12/2009Across the Bible, we see God reaching out to His creation to attempt to save and revive. Naturally, nowhere is this more obvious than in the New Testament and especially in the Gospels through the life of His son. Jesus came to earth to find and save those that were spiritually lost and bound by sin. By His own profession, He makes this clear when He tells His supporters that he didn't come to judge humankind, but to save the lost from an endless death ( John 3:17 ). Frequently ...
