Managing religious places in India?
Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.
Time has come when all religious places in India should be brought under the managing committees duly elected by the local people and no religious place should be under individual ownership and even all deras, asharams and matths should also be part of elected managing committees and no saint, sadhu should be allowed to keep individual ownership because all money and assets had been made because of the income from the devotees and these units were not commercial concerns.
The Sikhs community in India could get Shromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee under an enactment and it is going on well except some bad instances happening here and there. The people especially Sikhs residing in some other states have started demanding that they should have separate Gurdwara Prabandhak Committees free from Shromani Gurdwara Parabandhak Committee and there are chances they shall get such permission and in due course separate prabandhak committees shall be there for each state in India.
The present jurisdiction of SGPC is limitted only to historic gurudwaras and it should have jurisdiction over all gurudearas and no gurudwara should be free from these prabandhak committees and no one should be allowed to establish a gurudwara without permission from the prabandhak committee of the state and all accounts should be audited and money collected at these institutions should be allowed to be spent only on prescribed items.
- When people become rich in India, they start working otherwise and we have heard events of rape, misutilization of money on items which are not religious..
So time has come when government of India must start taking interest in the religious affairs too and they must enact laws on the subject covering all the items discussed above so that people in India may not mislead.
