As a spiritual-futurist, I have a BA degree majoring in history. One cannot know the future without knowing the past which holds clues to what is on the horizon. The world is in such a rapid expansion of knowledge that we are close to entering a tipping point that will forever change earth as we know it.
The King James Version of the Bible says in Luke 23:34, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Some 2,000 years later we still need to be forgiven for we know not what, in the hell on earth that we have created, we're doing. There is no hell after we leave this third dimensional shell, and world behind. A hell on earth there is indeed.
The early church fathers saw the world and said it was the result of ORIGINAL SIN.
Matthew Fox affirms the Bible position that we were created in the image of God and thus our beginning is more like ORIGINAL INNOCENCE. I interpret what Jesus had to say as though our problems stem from ORIGINAL MISPERCEPTION. Not to argue against neither St. Augustine, nor Fox, let me put forth another possibility for your consideration.
Simply put Jesus expressed the idea that our problem(s) is that we think, we perceive that we're SEPARATED from God.
God is not a PERSON out there and we PERSONS down here. We are ONE, always have been and always will be: one in Spirit, energy, consciousness. Since we are all one, we need to always be FORGIVING, because it is WE, US that we are forgiving as well as those who have wronged us. Our LIMITING beliefs need to be changed; however, that means we must recognize our mistaken PERCEPTIONS about the world.
Steve Bhaerman writes, "We have been shackled with emotional chains wrought by dysfunctional behaviors, programmed by stories of the past. Through forgiveness, we unshackle ourselves and others, allowing all of us o let go of the OLD story. Then, and only then, will we be free to create our positive future."
Indeed, forgive us for we know what we are doing. We are following those who didn't know what they were doing, who were following those who know not as well. The point isn't to point fingers at other, but to look in the mirror and learn to BE FORGIVENESS. Colin Tipping says to embrace such a life style is to "transform the victim archetype".
Remember as well, that which we're missing n the individually level exists as well on the societal level.
