What would the Christian life be devoid of baptism? Sad, joyous, fruitless are some of the adjectives that people might conjure up in response to an answer to this question. The sad fact of it is that baptism seems pretty rigorous on the surface. You have to send out the baptism invitations, alert your friends, call your mom, talk to your pastor at length, decide on a location, order the invitations, print the invitations, call all your friends, and then step into the water. You’ll be pretty tired and cold when it’s all over unless you feel energized by the splash of cold water. Of course, you can always do a little sprinkling if that’s all you’re ready for. Infants usually get sprinkled with water at certain churches when the parents vouch for the children’s spiritual upbringing. It’s really cool if you’ve never seen one in live action.
People want to know about its significance. Different theological thought schools have different answers to the question of a baptism’s significance. There’s really no two ways about it. People like to get baptized, and it’s good for them. God’s working relationship with Christ is exemplified through Christ’s working relationship with you and your kin. Kin need to be present at the baptism because the Bible tells us to regard our family very importantly. It tells us to treat them with respect, love, honor, and the Golden Rule. If you knew that your baptism would bring you to closer to God and his family, then you would want to let your family know all about it. Scriptures are the key because they provide the rules on baptism. Of course, there’s Moses’, John’s, and God’s baptism. Which is for you? The answer – all three is the answer. Jesus fulfilled the Law of God sent down through Moses. John announced the coming of the beautiful Christ figure, and God worked through Christ to unite us in beauty with Himself in his Kingdom.
The first step, of course, is to send out the baptism invitations. Unless your friends know where your baptism is, they won’t show up. If they don’t show up, they won’t know how important your baptism is to your spiritual meaning in your life. Without that, your friends won’t treat like the new man you want to be. You’ll create more problems for yourself by not inviting your friends to your baptism with baptism invitations galore.
