Basement Waterproofing Products - Three Products You Must Use

So, you are tired of having a wet basement and have decided to waterproof it yourself. To do this, there will be certain basement waterproofing products you should purchase. Of course, you don't need everything on the market and sometimes what you need will very depending upon the extent of waterproofing you have to do. In this article, I will discuss with you three basement waterproofing products you must use to adequately waterproof and seal off your basement.

These three basement waterproofing products are compound, an epoxy cement formula and a trowel. That's it. With these three basic products you should be able to handle almost 90% of all jobs where it is called to waterproof a basement.

Waterproofing compounds can be placed on those cracks that are hairline or are otherwise small enough to be adequately sealed off with just the compound itself. Simply take it and apply it to the cracks and holes and it will be enough to keep water from coming out.

However, if the hole is too big then sealing it with waterproofing compound will only be a temporary solution. Eventually it will become weak and compromised. In order to avoid this from happening, the best thing to do is to first clean up the area were seepage is occurring.

Next, either take your epoxy cement formula or mix your own mortar together, and patch the hole properly. This is where the trowel will come into place. In some cases where it is hard to reach the cracks or get the cement formula into them, you can use a putty knife.

Occasionally the patching will not be enough. This happens because the water pressure is too high and will still cause seepage. For this, you will need to chip out a groove that is the entire length of the area which is crack. In this case, two additional items will be needed -- a chisel and hammer.

You will know that you have done it right if the mortar doesn't fall out from the cracks when it dries. Otherwise, you will have to go back and patch it with mortar again. Take the time to do it right the first time so you can avoid going back or worrying about the area seeping in water.

For most jobs you do not need any fancy basement waterproofing products. Just use the basics and you should be able to do a good job.
