Clawfoot Bathtub Different Designs and Styles

The process of enameling cast iron was developed in 1883 by Standard Manufacturing. This lead to the design of the cast iron clawfoot bathtubs. This is the tub people think of as the antique bathtub with the rolled rims. Standard Manufacturing has become known as American Standard Manufacturing and is still in the bathtub manufacturing business but also the plumbing business as a whole has benefited from the developments and technology they have introduced to the market over the years. It is believed the three out of every five houses in the United States has some type of product from this great American company.

There are four different styles of the clawfoot bathtub. The classic is rounded on one end where the bather will be able to relax with their back in the curved end. The end where the feet go and the drain is located is more of a squared end. What is considered the slipper tub is very close to the basic design with the curved end raised for a headrest for the bather.

The next two designs are basically the same as the first two but both of the ends are rounded . The faucet on both of these designs have be moved to one of the sides to allow for two people to use the tubs if they wanted too. The double ended is just that, two of the ends rounded. The double slipper is rounded one both ends with both or the ends raised for the headrests. This double slipper is shaped like a banana or a “U” shape.

Some of the tubs can have different faucet holes or opening that can be located differently. The side mount of the end mount holes are located in the wall of the tubs. The rim mount has the holes cut out in the rolled over rim. Then there is the tubs with no faucet holes at all.

There is also different styles and designs of the clawfoot bathtub faucet as well. With all of the different styles, designs and finishes of the faucets, it is almost as hard the pick the faucets as the tub. The tub wall or side mount along with the rim mount is pretty self explanatory. There is a couple of different ones as well. The free standing is designed for a tub without the faucet holes and connects the a water supply ran from the floor. There is also a wall mount that is designed for the water supply coming out of the wall, but some of these can also be used as side mount faucets.

Another choice for the look and feel of the clawfoot tub is the modern acrylic clawfoot bathtub. These are manufactured and designed to be lighter then the cast iron tubs. But the best thing about the acrylic is the option of having the whirlpool or jet air. Great for relaxing.
