How To Increase The Value Of Your Home With Exterior Door Surrounds

There is no doubt at all that exterior door surrounds and DPR front door surrounds add an enormous amount of visual appeal to a house, immediately lifting its overall look and transforming a standard doorway into something quite remarkable and extremely attractive. One of the beauties of using pilasters or an exterior door surround is that they need not take up much room, and so for homes which have small front areas or no front garden area at all, they are ideal.

If you're looking to add value to your home, and make your home stand out compared to the majority of neighboring properties, then GRP front door surrounds are certainly one of the easiest and most affordable ways of achieving this. Your front door is one of the most eye catching aspects of your property - people are naturally drawn to it as the focal point of most houses. But if this is plain and dull, with little to make it stand out, then this apparent ordinariness will spread to the entire property. An exterior door surround acts almost like a picture frame, turning a plain door into a feature.

Most of us wouldn't dream of putting a picture on the wall without framing it, and so adding GRP front door surrounds takes this same idea one step further. But it isn't just adding visual appeal, because there are practical advantages too. Having timber based pilasters or a door surround made from wood has its problems. In the first instant it is much harder to create an exact fit, one which will be water tight for many years.

The second problem is maintenance. For something which will attract so much attention and demand to be seen, it will be of utmost importance to ensure that it looks visually appealing all of the time. If you have a wooden frame, this will need regular maintenance, including stripping, varnishing, and painting. Over time timber based pilasters or door surrounds will need replacing as the wood cracks, splits or rots. But these issues are entirely addressed with GRP, or glass reinforced plastic.

Glass reinforced plastic or GRP, otherwise known as fibreglass, is incredibly strong and durable. Exterior door surrounds made from GRP have an inherent strength, as well as being resistant to water and weather conditions which would make other materials warp, crack or become damaged or faded over time. They need very little maintenance - just a quick wash ever now and again with soapy water to make them look brand new.

This is important, since GRP front door surrounds will be extremely striking and visually obvious. It will be very important to make sure that it is relatively easy to keep your door surround or pilasters looking smart, clean and in good condition. No matter how good the picture, if the frame is old, tired or damaged, this will affect the overall impression. The same is true when it comes to exterior door surrounds. If they look tired, damaged or in need of repair, then this will translate to the whole of the property in the minds of people seeing it.

This could spell real trouble if you are trying to sell your property, but with GRP or fibreglass door surrounds you will not have to worry about this issue. In addition, you will not have to worry about installation either, since this is very much quicker, easier and cheaper using fibreglass than timber or other heavy materials. If your pilasters or door surround is to be made of timber, brick or plaster then it will probably require several people to create and fix it, and this could easily take at least one day, and possible several.

However, because GRP is molded and manufactured in a factory beforehand, to your exact requirements and using precise measurements to ensure an exact fit, the only actual work which needs doing at your property is to fit the finished product to your door or wall. This in itself is an easy job, since fibreglass is much lighter and easier to handle than wood or plaster, requiring fewer people, less time and consequently, costing you much less money.

When you consider the savings in terms of time and money, as well as reduced maintenance, you can see just what an excellent choice GRP or fibreglass is when it comes to making and choosing exterior door surrounds for your home. With all of these savings it is almost hard to believe the immediate and striking lift they will give to your property, and the increase in both kerb appeal and value when it comes to selling your property. In today's competitive housing market, even a slight edge is enough to make a huge amount of difference.
