Looking At Motor Homes; Perfect Holiday Solution

When looking at motor homes there is much to consider, whether to buy new or used, the budget at your disposal and what kind of functions you would like your motor home to perform. There is the question of whether towed caravans instead of powered motor homes will better suit your needs. Ultimately the choice is yours but here are some helpful tips to first time 'motor homers'.

You should be especially careful if looking at motor homes in the private listings and on the internet. Your first concern should be whether the paperwork is up to scratch and contains all the relevant information. A complete service history should accompany all motor homes, as should any registration papers and any details of work undertaken on the home. It is also worth taking a mechanic with you who can check over the engine thoroughly; this kind of knowledge is invaluable and ensures you do not obtain a motor home that won't take you anywhere. Added to this the VIN number and other serial numbers should match the accompanying documentation.

Take your time when looking at motor homes, do not let the seller rush you; motor homes are considerable investment so care should always be taken. Once again a mechanic is useful to check the state of the house batteries as these can be expensive to replace. Also the braking system is of especial importance, you want your home to be able to stop safely and in good time.

When looking at the interior of motor home there are number of essential factors that should be on your checklist. The most obvious thing to look for when looking at homes is to check for any structural defects, as these can be expensive to remedy. Also as with many other forms of mobile travel damp should be a major concern; this will be noticeable in the corner of homes in the form of patches behind lockers and on the ceiling. Damp can sometimes mean a leaking roof which is an extremely costly repair job.

You should also make a detailed check of the kitchen and bathroom when looking at motor homes. Carpets should be of extra interest and flooring more generally. Once again damp should be what you are looking for, damp patches on the floor can mean a leaking water system that could cause the frame of the whole home to rot and become weak. The toilet should also be inspected thoroughly to ensure it can hold water and will keep those nasty smells at bay and away from the interior of the vehicle.

Naturally the appliances should be checked when perusing motor homes; items such as the microwave oven, the stove and fridge are essential appliances that need to work for successful holidaying. Away from the kitchen, the heating system should be looked at. Being thorough is the name of the game, flick every switch, open every door and check all the cupboards. Without a detailed check you may end up with a motor home that is ill equipped for travel.

When doing all of this make sure to take detailed notes. List the good and bad points in a logical manner and keep the record whilst also including details of any work that may have to be undertaken. It is important to look at a variety of motor homes; hence these notes will come in very handy when making a final decision. Ultimately the choice is yours but with this advice you should be able to find the right motor home for you and your family that will provide years of happy holidaying.
