Remove Mildew From Used Campers

One of the things that plagues used campers is mildew.

To start, mildew in used campers usually starts in the tent area, caulking around doors, windows, under sinks, cabinets, ceiling vents, refrigerators, bath room and shower. This can be from leaks during rain and storage or general careless use of the camper. This water goes unchecked and not properly cleaned up.

For instance, I purchased a used camper this summer that was in pristine condition. The owner walked me through the detailed steps of how he unpacks and packs the camper each time he uses the camper. He gave specific attention to the air conditioner. When the air is running, condensation runoff builds up on the roof. If enough accumulates, it can start running off the roof and onto the tent that encloses the side-out bunk. This condensation can soak the tent material in a very short amount of time. So, you must dry off the effected areas before the camper can be let back down. If you don't, the moisture will turn into mildew.

Treating Used Campers

Treat moldy areas of used campers using a water and bleach solution or a store bought cleaner. Let the cleaner soak for a few minutes to kill the germs that caused the mold or mildew. Be sure to completely dry any areas that you treat. The most effective way to combat mold and mildew is to keep a dry atmosphere inside your RV.

We also bought a used camper that has the canvas on each end for the sleeping quarters. Canvas had mildrew on it so we were told to clean it with bleach, which we did. The next year after we took it out of storage, we went camping, it rained pretty hard one night and you guessed it, the rain came in over the canvas part of the camper. We asked the person who services our camper what to do? He first told us after we told him we had bleached the mildew is that we took all the protectant off the canvas so we went to WalMart and bought a spray and we had to spray the canvas with this water resistant spray, works great by the way, if you cant find it in the camping dept. of WalMart, look over in the shoe dept. by the boots. I recommend this product, as for the mildew, we still see some, so the only thing the bleach really did was make the camper inside spell a little better, if ya like bleach spell. Just wanted to share, thanks
