Recreational vehicles have grown in popularity over the years. In the past, you might see a recreational vehicle here or there but nothing like today when many different types of people are taking to the roads with their RV and going across the country or across the state to enjoy family vacations, weekend getaways or a variety of other types of excursions that make having an RV a simple pleasure.
If you have taken the plunge and purchased an RV, you know what it's like to have your RV available for those spontaneous summer getaways. Depending on where you live, however, you may also have need for RV storage when you are not planning your next trip out of town. If so, you know that it is important to select an RV storage or facility that is a safe choice for storing your RV.
Most housing subdivisions do not allow for storage of your RV when you are not using it. There is no place to store them if you live in an apartment building either. If you are looking for local storage for your RV, you may have to consider retail sales for RVs that may offer rental space on a month at a time basis. The advantage to this type of storage is that you will have your RV nearby for any time you want to vacation. The disadvantage is that your RV will most likely just be stored on a parking lot with no covering and minimal security such as a locked, gated fence for when the retailer is closed.
Another choice you may want to consider is RV storage sheds. RV storage sheds are a great way to store your RV and still have access to it. RV storage sheds, like the ones in Ohio, allow you to bring your RV to the storage shed, park it there, and leave it for the length of time that you want to pay. These RV storage sheds are a great option because you are provided with a complete covering for the top and sides of your RV.
Perhaps the most effective but least expensive storage for your RV is indoor RV storage. Although indoor RV storage is not very common or cheap, it is an excellent way to store your RV when you live in a state where the winter months can present challenges such as snow, freezing rain and ice. If you are planning to put your RV away for the winter, you should consider indoor storage as a place to put your RV. With indoor storage, you can go to work on your RV if it needs it. If you have a newer RV, consider allowing it to be included in an RV show. This can help to offset some of the costs of your rental fees and gives you the opportunity to let other people admire your beautiful RV.
No matter what type of RV storage you choose, it's a good idea to have an RV cover for your RV. This cover can be out of a sturdy material such as tarpaulin that can be custom ordered to fit your RV specifically. A cover will provide added protection for your RV so that paint, customized detailing, mirrors, windows and the like do not get scratched or marred by coming in contact with things.
When you are preparing to decide what type of RV storage you want for your RV, decide how long you want it stored, where you would like to store it and what you want the storage to provide. For example, you may be able to pay less for RV storage in another state like Ohio, but you will have to pay the gas costs to drive your RV there. You may be able to find local storage that is inexpensive but places your RV in a lot or storage shed where it cannot be moved until the season is over. Also consider checking with your insurance agency who may give a discount on your RV's insurance costs if you store your RV in a storage facility or shed that they recommend.
Wherever you decide to store your RV, make sure that you take the time to winterize your RV before you put it into storage and to give it a thorough maintenance check up when you take it out of storage before you put it on the road for the next vacation. Both will help to maintain your RV's life.
