Stress is the leading cause of heart attacks in the US today. With the hustle and bustle of our busy lives it is quite easy to see. Learning to make your life less stressful is not only a difficult task in many cases but it quite often seems impossible in the world of cold calling and sales. Learning new ways to make our lives less stressing could very well be the thing that saves our lives in the future.
Here are a few tips that can help us on our long ongoing journey:
Tip 1: Learn to let go of the idea of getting the sale: Why you ask because if your overall goal is sales you will push each call a little harder, and when the sale is not made it will add unwanted stress in your life with each rejection. Looking at each call as an opportunity to find a fit is the best way to go. This is a simple conversation and the average number of positive conversations will by far out number the actual number of sales any day. This will give you more of a sense of accomplishment and reduce the overall level of stress in your life.
Tip 2: Let go of the scripts: This is important simply because sales scripts in cold calling cause you to be somebody you are not. It hinders the natural flow of conversation and will bring you down faster if you can't get the words out right or you get tripped up in the call. This also adds stress to your life that you don't need. You should be happy or enthusiastic about what you have to offer because it truly is a solution to the prospects issues and you know it will help not because you were taught to in sales training class.
Tip 3: Use visualization to help you relax and get prepared between calls: The art of visualization and relaxation is a great stress reducer that can be used in all areas of your life not just in cold calling. It will put you in the right state of mind between calls and relax your train of thought.
Tip 4: Research your products or services: Making sure the product or service you are selling is something you would truly use yourself is important. If you can't stand behind your product or services why would you market it to anyone else. Also knowing what you have to offer and how it can benefit your prospect can relieve added stress in the cold calls.
If you reduce your stress level while cold calling you will reduce the stress of the prospect and have a much better experience. It is important to take care of yourself as well as sell the product or service. Remember that relaxed and stress free conversation is the most important part of cold calling.
