Apply Pesticides Cautiously for Saving Crop Damage

Every year, a large percentage of crops are damaged due to the pest's attacks which eventually result in reducing crop productivity. Hence, the fact has raised the importance of following relevant crop protection measures in the agricultural lands to minimize the aforementioned risks. Agrochemicals like pesticides, etc are applied by farmers in a large number in their respective lands to fight against the growing population of pests. Pesticide is a chemical substance that aids in destroying, preventing or mitigating various pest's population that include insects, weeds, birds, mollusks, etc.

Applying the agrochemicals to the field is considered as an effective means of improving cop yield and safeguarding crop quality. Pesticide is a broad term as it covers a wide range of products such as fungicide, herbicide, etc. and classified under various categories depending upon the physical state and chemical structure. Talking about one such chemical-fumigant, it is considered as highly toxic substance that is used for sterilizing the soil before planting crops like carrots, strawberries, tomatoes, etc. Fumigants are found in gaseous state and they have high application rates which possess high risks to workers as well as nearby communities for several weeks.

Follow safety measures while applying Chemicals

Application of pesticides is a bothersome task as several precautions are required to follow during application process and after completing the required process. Safety measures which need to follow during application involves:

•    Do not forget to wear suggested protective equipments while applying these chemical substances.
•    Avoid activities like drinking, smoking, touching your face, etc during application process.
•    When the wind is blowing in such direction which is away from sensitive areas, then spray these chemicals.
•    Minimize drift by not spraying at that time when winds are blowing more than a speed of 5-8 km/hr.

Whereas, precautions which are necessary to follow after application process include:

•    Washing hands properly before involving in activities like eating, drinking, etc.
•    Personal protective equipment and sprayer should be cleaned properly.
•    Use post warning signs to keep people stay away from treated areas.

These are some of the precautions which a person has to follow while applying pesticides and fumigants in the agricultural lands. It is not wrong to say that pesticides are indispensable components for agricultural growth, but may lead to some undesirable results if not used properly. Therefore, increase the crop productivity by applying these chemicals in required percentage.
